Buffalo State wants every student to succeed. For that reason, we've designed a coaching program, based on Steven Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, to help you to identify and achieve your goals while here. More specifically, the core purpose of student coaching is closely connected to the pivotal student development goal of developing purpose (Chickering & Reisser, 1993).

The coaching program at Buffalo State offers students a free opportunity to learn and apply the skills needed to be successful in college. Senior resident assistants, meet one-on-one with students to create an academic and engagement plan, set goals, and share resources to help undergraduate students achieve their academic goals within and beyond the classroom environment. Our coaches tailor each session to the needs of the student; however, areas of focus for any appointment could include a variety of topical areas such as:

  • Time management
  • Goal setting
  • Study skills
  • Getting to know your faculty
  • Academic planning
  • Time management
  • Learning styles

Almost anyone can benefit from coaching. If you feel there is something preventing you from achieving academic success, we can assist. Coaching is a great resource for modifying existing behaviors and exploring new areas for academic and personal growth.
